Uzbekistan Nears Joining WTO After Finalizing Deal with UK
Urunov made the announcement on Saturday via LinkedIn, stating, "Since then we have gone through internal procedures to sign the Protocol on the margins of the 10th Working Party meeting in Geneva on June 12, 2025."
The UK becomes the 24th WTO member to finalize bilateral market access discussions with Uzbekistan. Urunov also mentioned that "a few more WTO members are left for the entire completion of bilaterals," signaling that full accession is drawing closer.
The office of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that on May 14, the president assessed the nation’s progress on WTO membership and issued directives to accelerate and better coordinate the accession process.
"As part of the bilateral track, negotiations have been held with 33 countries on market access, of which talks with 24 countries have already been successfully concluded," the presidential press service confirmed.
