Study indicates whites to become minority in UK in four decades
Professor Matt Goodwin from Buckingham University, whose analysis was cited by The Telegraph on Tuesday, estimates that the proportion of white Britons will drop from 73% today to 57% by 2050. The study projects that by 2063, white Britons will be outnumbered, and by 2100, their share could fall to around 33%.
The research also forecasts that by the end of the century, 60% of the UK’s population will be either foreign-born or have at least one immigrant parent. The Muslim population is expected to rise from the current 7% to nearly 19.2% over the same period.
Goodwin explained that his study accounts for migration patterns, birth rates, and death rates among different ethnic and religious groups, using data from the Office for National Statistics and census reports. He emphasized that the findings raise significant questions about the nation’s ability and leadership to unite people around a common identity, shared values, culture, and way of life.
The professor also warned that the concerns his study may provoke among many Britons must be acknowledged and addressed to prevent serious political divisions and unrest in the coming decades.
