UK Lets US to Use Bases for Defensive Attacks Against Iran
Starmer said the decision is intended to prevent Iranian missiles from killing civilians, threatening British lives, or striking uninvolved countries. He stressed that the UK is not participating in the US-Israeli offensive strikes on Iran but is supporting defensive operations to protect allies and British personnel in the region.
Since Saturday, US and Israeli strikes on Iran have killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting US and Israeli assets, leading several Gulf states to close their airspace.
Starmer emphasized that the UK’s actions are purely defensive, aimed at mitigating immediate threats and preventing further escalation, while reaffirming that the UK will not join offensive operations in Iran.
